Euro 2008 - Group C

Review

Group C is a group of death if I have ever seen one! Three out of the five top seeded teams have been drawn in the same group, which is great from a neutral point of view but terrible if it’s your team that is one that doesn’t make it into the knock out stages. I cant pick a favourite out of France, Italy and Holland but I’m sure it will be two out of those three that will progress unless Romania play out of their skins in all of their matches.

Frances team is still in a transitional period but still posses some of the hottest properties on the earth in Karim Benzema, Hatem Ben Arfa and Samir Nasri. Not only that but they still have the likes on Thierry Henry in their ranks so when it comes to players that can change a game in an instant France have a few, that’s why I am expecting them to have a strong campaign.

Italy’s squad looks just as strong as it was two years ago when they lifted the world cup so its safe to assume they will go far in this tournament and with players that posses as much quality as Pirlo and Cannavaro to back up that statement, even though the odds aren’t great a bet on Italy to win the trophy in the summer could prove fruitful.

Hollands chances are looking better and better as their star players are all either on form or are coming back to full fitness just in time for the tournament, for example Van Persie has just got over a serious injury that has kept him out for most of the season with Arsenal, Wesley sneijder is lighting up the Bernabau with his displays and Klaas Jan Huntelaar has taken the Dutch league by storm!

Romania don’t really have many world class players except for maybe Chivu and Mutu so if those two aren’t on their game, I can see Romania becoming the whipping boys of the group.
